Hi all
We are supposed to be taking a group of students to Japan in September this year, however, I was wondering whether other schools that are visiting this year have a course of action re: swine flu. I am seriously considering postponing this trip and intend on speaking to the Head of Secondary about it this week - I feel that any sign of the sniffles will necessitate a trip to the doctor over there. This in addition to many insurance companies exempting it from their policies. I heard on the news that one 'northern suburbs high school' had cancelled their trip.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Tricky decision! What did the Head say? I am waiting for my school to make a decision this week about accepting 10 primary/middle school students in August. If we won't have them at school then they will cancel their trip, as attending school and making friends is their main focus. Since they are only here for 5 days, we can't quarantine them for 7 as the rules suggest!!

I'm meeting with my Head of Secondary in a few minutes. I have a feeling the trip will be postponed but I will let you know the outcome after I speak to her. My only concern is quarantine measures in Japan (which I can't seem to find any information on). With the change in climate, some kids invariably get sick, and I don't want to be worried about that sickness being swine flu! The travel agent says it's all a big beat up, which it is, but, at the end of the day, the person responsible for everything is me, and I'm not sure I want to be laden with dealing with a swine flu outbreak amongst my kids!
